I'm As Mad As Hell...
Brenda May Gallery
2 Danks Street
Waterloo NSW
June 26 – 14 July 2007
Opening 4pm – 6pm Saturday 30 June
Gallery hours Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 6pm
“I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your
head out and yell – ‘I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!’
Things have got to change.
But first, you’ve gotta get mad!... ”
Such was the call to power made by Howard Beale in the 1976 film Network.
Beale’s words seem to have an even greater resonance in the twenty-first century
where our lives are dictated by global terror and the hysterical responses to it.
For this exhibition we have asked our artists to consider what maddens them and
what they are willing to stand up and shout about.

Creating images in black and white is the common element that draws the
work of these three
artists together. Working in different mediums and subjects,
Paula Bray, Nicole Hands and Joel
Tarling all convey their interpretation of their
immediate environment. Whether it’s photographs
of landscapes in their extremes,
iconography associated with the family unit or the domestic
environment being
put under the microscope, each artist’s work is unique in its conveyance of
ideas
and ideals in a black and white context.

Separation
Chrissie Cotter Gallery
Pidcock Street Camperdown NSW 2050
April 5 – 16 2006
Opening night 6pm – 8pm Tuesday 4 April
Music by Da Vinci's Line
Separation is a feast of dramatic paintings that explore issues such as the relationships of power
within the family unit and the breakdown effect on each member.
In her first solo exhibition, the artist explores the isolation, loss, the shift in the dynamics of the
family unit and the affect these have on her. It is from her perspective that we visually experience
her emotional response to this period in her childhood.
In Separation, fluid forms are placed on a dark and brooding background, the paintings evoke a
sense of foreboding and isolation in a time of uncertainty. The use of strong contours symbolise
the disintegration and mobilisation of the family unit. The intensity of emotion ebbs and flows with
the changes that are taking place.

Layers - Beneath The Surface
Global Gallery
5 Comber Street Paddington NSW 2021
March 8 – 19 2006
Opening night 6pm – 8pm Wednesday 8 March
Music by Da Vinci's Line
Gallery hours Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 6pm, Sunday 12pm – 4pm
Meet the artists 2pm – 4pm Saturday March 18
www.globalgallery.com.au
Artists exhibiting include Cindy Care, Nicole Hands, Renee Coren, Heydy Martinez, Ree Sorbello
and Alarice van den Berg.
This group of artists expose and interpret the concept behind Layers. In unique ways, each artist
explores the idea how we use the physical to cover up the emotion or spiritual. What do we find if
we look deep, beyond the surface, if we explore past the obvious? The surface can be a beautiful
layer, as it is used to distract us from the heart if the issues. This exhibition allows the artist to look
further than the surface, through all the layers to get to the core to expose the hurt, anger, and fear
– the inner darkest secrets.
Based on the relationships people form with one another, my series of paintings share common
elements and symbols to explore the bonds people form, focusing specifically on the bonds within
the family unit. Those special connections formed between a parent and their child, and how these
relationships develop as the family dynamics grow and change to accommodate the complex nature
of multiple relationships and their demands on daily life.
